Why focus on sustainable and ethical travel?

When I discovered the devastating environmental impact of travel, I was shocked and disturbed: the fuel guzzling flights associated with the long distance travel, water wasting hotels, wildlife exploitation for tourism, privatization of nature exclusively for the wealthy, destruction of forests & beaches for resorts, and so much more. For years, I traveled abroad not fully aware as to how my decisions might harm local populations, economies, habitats, and wildlife. I assumed  that travel was always a force of 'good'. In hopes of changing the often detrimental impacts of careless tourism, The Uprooted Rose began as a guide for those who love travel and nature. When you travel responsibly, everyone reaps the benefits. When you guide your travels by nature, you open your heart to the beauty of the world.

Where do you come from?

BORN & RAISED IN THE BAY. I am a San Francisco native and I love this city with every inch of my soul. Growing up in California undoubtedly gave me an incurable obsession with the great outdoors and a sense of responsibility in protecting it. After 18 years of growing up in SF, I moved to beautiful Madrid, Spain to study International Relations and Business in order to understand modern human existence slightly better. Today, I am traveling the world to learn about international conservation and global sustainable business, but soon I will be settling down to get my masters degree in Conservation Biology.
